A Pap test detects abnormal cells in your cervix, the area where your uterus opens into your vagina. Because this test is highly effective at detecting abnormal cells, it\u2019s widely regarded as the best way to detect cervical cancer early and prevent its advancement.<\/p>

You typically receive a Pap smear during a normal pelvic exam. Doctors recommend a Pap smear every three years for women between 21 and 65.<\/p>

Starting when you\u2019re 30, Dr. Ziworitin may advise you to have a Pap test every three years, or scheduling a Pap test along with an HPV screening every five years.<\/p><\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n

Most women should start having an annual mammogram at age 40. A mammogram is a type of X-ray that helps detect early-stage breast cancer in women who don\u2019t yet have any signs or symptoms of the disease. Mammograms are also used to help evaluate any lumps found during a routine breast exam.<\/p>
